Man Shot and Killed After Forcing His Way into Home

McMinn, Tennessee — McMinn County Sherriff Joe Guy said his deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a home located on County Rd 114 at around 1:30 a.m. early Sunday morning.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 39-year-old Sante Mack lying in the yard outside the home. He had been shot and was severely injured.

According to Sherriff Guy, his investigators determined that it appeared Mack had been at the residence the night before and had once been in a relationship with one of the three women in the home.

Mack left the residence but returned later that night at around midnight and forced his way inside through a window. When the occupants of the home confronted Mack, he drew a gun and assaulted one of the women with it, then fired of a shot at them.

Another man in the home, 34-year-old Jesse, V. Applebee was also armed, and shot Mack one time while the women sought cover further inside the home and called police.

Mack was able to make it back outside but collapsed in the yard outside where law enforcement found him.

Officers attempted to render aid to Mack before he was transported by medics to University of Tennessee Medical Center. He died later that morning of his gunshot wound.

Detectives report that the investigation is on going but there are no reports of charges filed against Applebee for shooting Mack.
