Nashville, Tennessee – According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), officers were dispatched to the scene of a reported shooting on Monday night.
When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Timothy White suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Eleven North Apartments at 300 11th Ave. North at around 9:00 p.m.
Officers rendered first aid to White and he was quickly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center but later died from his wounds while in surgery. A weapon was found nearby at the scene of the shooting and thought to belong to White.
While detectives were investigating the scene, another man, 36-year-old Wontez Graham and his father approached the officers and reported that he had been involved in the shooting.
Graham told investigators he and his girlfriend had just parked his car in the apartment parking lot, when White came over wearing a his hood up, then drew a handgun, possibly to steal his car.
Graham drew his own pistol and a shootout erupted between the men. White was struck with critical injuries, while Graham and his girlfriend escaped unharmed to a nearby grocery store before returning with Graham’s father.
After being interviewed by detectives, Graham, his father and girlfriend were all released without charges being brought against them at this time.
According to MNPD, White has a criminal record and had been released on bond a short time ago and was due back in court in September to answer for charges of 2 counts of attempted murder in 2017. White was accused of firing a gun into a car with two women inside, wounding one in the upper back.
MNPD is requesting anyone with information about the crime to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME anonymously, and callers may receive a cash reward.
Violent crime happens around vehicles more often then almost anywhere else. Knowing how to fight in and around a car is important for anyone looking to increase their ability to defend themselves from an attacker.
